Swallows and summer

I'm sitting here, in my hotel room, watching swallows dive and soar in the dusk of a warm summer's night. Maybe they're not swallows (do you even get swallows here?) but they look like swallows to me. It's almost 8pm and it's still light. And warm.

Tomorrow I fly home, back to winter. South and East, towards the rising sun and flood warnings in Cape Town and several more cold fronts to come. It's so warm here. It'll be fall soon and then winter with its icy grip, but for now it's summer still. It's hard to think I'll leave the swallows behind.
